Pre-K Lesson Plan (Ages 3-4)
Students will identify the difference between feeling bored and using imagination.
Students will practice gross motor skills by pretending to travel.
Students will name at least two different types of environments (e.g., cold snow, hot jungle).
Materials
Procedure (45 minutes)
(10 mins) Circle Time Introduction: Discuss what it feels like to be bored. Pass around the inflatable globe and ask students where they would go if they could fly anywhere.
(15 mins) Storytime: Watch the read-along video of 'Wander World'. Ask students to point out the different animals they see in the video.
(10 mins) Movement Activity: Have students stand up and pretend to be airplanes. Call out different climates (e.g., 'It's freezing in Antarctica!' or 'It's hot in the desert!') and have them act out how they would fly or walk in those places.
(10 mins) Art Station: Provide coloring sheets where students draw themselves on a magical adventure.
Kindergarten Lesson Plan - Age 5
Learning Objectives
Students will be able to list the seven continents.
Students will understand that books can take us to imaginary places.
Students will use creative movement to represent travel.
Materials
Procedure (60 minutes)
(5 mins) Hook: Ask students if they have ever been on a long trip. Show them the cover of the book.
(15 mins) Read-Aloud: Watch the read-along video of 'Wander World'. Pause at each continent mentioned to find it on the classroom map/rug.
(15 mins) The Continent Hop Game: Place markers on the floor representing continents. Play music. When the music stops, call out a continent. Students must 'hop' to that continent.
(25 mins) Optional Author Q&A Exploration: Watch the author's Q&A video. After watching, since the video already contains questions from other children, lead a discussion prompting students to come up with new questions they would like to ask the author regarding how they chose the continents or the art style.
1st Grade Lesson Plan - Age 6

Students will write a short narrative about an imaginary trip.

Materials
Procedure (60 minutes)

(15 mins) Reading: Watch the read-along video. Discuss how the main character changed her boredom into an adventure.
(15 mins) Writing Activity: Distribute notebooks. Students will start a 'Boredom Buster Journal'. The first entry is: 'If I could travel to any continent right now, I would go to...'
(20 mins) Optional Author Q&A Exploration: Watch the author's Q&A video. Discuss the questions asked in the video. Encourage students to brainstorm 2-3 new questions about the writing process or the characters that were not covered in the video.
2nd Grade Lesson Plan - Age 7
Learning Objectives
Students will analyze how illustrations contribute to the mood of a story.
Students will experiment with watercolor techniques.
Students will research one fact about a specific continent.
Materials
Procedure (70 minutes)
(10 mins) Art Analysis: Show pages from the book (or pause the video). Discuss the watercolor style. Ask: 'How does this art make you feel? Calm? Excited?'
(15 mins) Viewing: Watch the read-along video of 'Wander World' with a focus on the background scenery.
(25 mins) Art & Fact Activity: Assign each table a continent. Students use tablets/atlases to find one fact, then paint a watercolor scene representing that continent.
(20 mins) Optional Author Q&A Exploration: Watch the author's Q&A video. Facilitate a class discussion about the author's inspiration. Have students work in pairs to formulate unique interview questions they would ask the author.
Alternative Lesson Plan - Ages 3 - 7

Students will use props to enhance storytelling.
Students will practice listening comprehension in a cozy environment.

(5 mins) Preparation: Everyone gets inside or around the fort with flashlights. Dim the room lights.
(15 mins) Interactive Reading: Watch the read-along video (projected or on a tablet inside the fort). Use flashlights to shine on imaginary things mentioned in the book.
(15 mins) Post-Reading Play: Ask students, 'Where do we go next?' Allow free play where they navigate their fort to a new imaginary destination.
